Obituary for Robert "Bob" Crowe

Robert "Bob" Crowe
Mr. Robert L. “Bob” Crowe, 70, of Cartersville, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at his residence.

Born March 17, 1944 in Calhoun, he was a son of the late Dayton Crowe and the late Julie Gray Crowe. Bob was President of the Bartow County Genealogical Society. Bob loved genealogy and especially the genealogy of the people of Bartow County. He was especially interested in the Civil War & all Military history and the people here in this county who served. He was Commander of Stiles Akin Camp # 670 and was also President of the Cassville Historical Society. He was also very involved in the storytelling at Cassville Cemetery. I know of no other in this county who was more involved with finding out about the history of the people of Bartow County. Bob always had a story to tell and had so much knowledge of this county, it was astounding. But Bob was not just interested in the people. He went out of his way to find out about the history. Bob always made himself available to share his knowledge. And he had so much knowledge!! He was a family man who loved his grandchildren dearly. He and Kay always had a smile and a hug for everyone. He was a very good man and had a big heart for others.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Bates Crowe; daughter, Cathy Shires and her husband John of Stone Mountain; step-daughters, Tammy Wilkey and her husband Chris of Cartersville, and Carla Poole, also of Cartersville; brother, Larry Crowe and his wife Deborrah of Cartersville; sisters, Frances Brown and her husband Sonny of Conyers, Sue Casey, Carolyn Bain, and Wendy Lee, all of Calhoun; grandchildren, Parker Shires, Zack Shires, Mackenzie Shires, Cameron Wilkey, Carsyn Wilkey, Dalton Gilstrap, Mallory Gilstrap, and Brianna Webster; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with The Reverend Joe Nix officiating. Immediately following the service, in the funeral home parking lot, the Stiles-Akin Camp #670 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, in period uniforms, will render military honors with a 21 gun salute.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Stiles-Akin Camp #670, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Post Office Box 514, Cassville, GA 30123, the Cassville Historical Society, Post Office Box 43, Cassville, GA 30123 or to the Bartow Genealogical Society, 101 North Irwin Street, Cartersville, GA 30120 in memory of Bob.
