Mrs. Sybil Horning White, 86, of Cartersville, widow of the late Robert Leon White, Jr., died Friday, August 22, 2014 at Townsend Park Health and Rehabilitation.

Born September 28, 1927 in Covington, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Horning and the late Pearl Brooks Horning. Mrs. White was a member of the Church of the Ascension and a homemaker. She enjoyed reading and watching the Atlanta Braves and golf, and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Horning, and a sister, Hazel Horning Ross.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara White Scragg and her husband Chuck of St. Simons Island, and Janice White Maxwell of Woodstock; sons, Robert Leon White, III of Woodstock, and Stephen McKee White of Astoria, NY; grandchildren, Christopher Scragg of Nashville, TN, Chas Scragg of Acworth, Jonathan Scragg of Atlanta, Travis Brett LaFoy of Roswell, Austin Leon White of Marietta, and William Parker White, also of Marietta; 5 great-grandchildren, 2 nephews, and 1 niece.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Ascension, to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 250 Williams Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30303, in memory of Mrs. White.
