Obituary for Dennis Ellis Jr.

Retired Master Sergeant Dennis “Dick” Christopher Ellis, Jr., age 82, went to be with his creator on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Tranquility Hospice @ Kennesaw Mountain. Born in Martindale, Georgia on January 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Dennis Ellis and Ara Irene Boss.

Mr. Ellis retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service and a 50 year member of the John W. Aikens Masonic # 537 F&AM. He was also a proud member of the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky. Mr. Ellis’s first love was his wife and family. He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather and enjoyed searching out his family roots. He also enjoyed photography, especially of nature. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Donna Jean Osborn Ellis; his sisters, Betty Scheivelhud, Sylvia Whittle, Lucille Greene; and his son-in-law, John Roberts.

Survivors include his daughters, Donna Dennise Ellis Roberts (Gerioux Lewis) of Cartersville, Susan “Darlene” Ellis Brown (Paul) of Ozark, Alabama; his sons, Leonard DeWayne Ellis of Topeka, Kansas and Derek C. Ellis (Lori) of Topeka, Kansas; his sisters, Doris Ellis Watson of Wallaceville, Georgia, Virginia Ann Ellis Worthington of Kingston, Georgia, Linda Sue Clark of Wallaceville, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Sunset Memory Gardens with full military honors and masonic rites. Service will be officiated by his son-in-law, Paul Brown. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Masonic Children’s Home, 1417 Knottingham Drive, Macon, Ga. 31211.
