Obituary for Sarah Kay Broom

Sarah Kay  Broom
Mrs. Sarah Kay Smith Broom, 94, of Cartersville, GA and formerly of Dalton passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at her residence.

She was born on April 9, 1922 and married Billy Archie Broom on July 9, 1944. Sarah was employed at Millender’s Department store on Hamilton Street in Dalton for approximately 29 years. She served as the first female juror in Whitfield County and was active in the Dalton Shrine Club with Billy. Sarah was surrounded by a large extended family and friends, many who remember her for ways in which she touched their lives.

She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Billy Archie Broom; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and J. David Hayes of Cartersville, GA; four grandchildren, Lauren and Matthew Smith of Marietta, GA, Kate Thompson of Stuart, FL, Mike and Stephanie Hayes of Woodstock, GA and Jan Russell of Marietta, GA; six great-grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Rachel Hayes, Nick and Sadina Russell (Alec and Blake), Hunter Hayes, Jessica Russell, and Spencer Hayes.

Services for Sarah will be on Thursday, September 15, 2016. The family will receive friends at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home in Cartersville from 11 AM until 12 PM with a memorial service following at 12 PM. The family will also receive friends at Love Funeral Home in Dalton from 2 PM until 3:30 PM with a graveside service following in West Hill Cemetery at 3:30 PM.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org.
