Obituary for Martha Abernathy

Martha  Abernathy
Mrs. Martha G. Abernathy, 78, of Taylorsville, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at her residence.

Born January 28, 1938 in Cartersville, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Cagle and the late Evelyn Caldwell Cagle. Mrs. Abernathy was a member of Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church and was retired from the Bartow County School System, having worked in the lunchroom at the old Taylorsville Elementary and Mission Road Elementary for over 30 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Deborah Abernathy; sisters, Elizabeth Cagle, Judy Cagle, Jeannette Hightower and Virginia Smith; and brother, Joel Cagle.

Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Jesse J. Abernathy; her son, Jamie Abernathy (Lisa) of Taylorsville; her daughter, Yvonne Mullis (Al) of West Palm Beach, Florida; her brothers, Robert Cagle of Cartersville, Jerry Cagle of Tennessee and Harry Cagle of Dalton; her sisters, Marian Brock of Euharlee, Sara Hightower of Taylorsville and Barbara Goodwin of Cartersville; her grandchildren, Tia Abernathy and Taylor Abernathy; her great-grandchildren, Kyliana Abernathy and Skyler Abernathy; along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church with The Reverend Charles Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Abernathy will be carried to the church on Saturday to lie-in-state from 2 – 3 p.m. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Jimmy Chappell, John Redd, Sr., Gerald Goodwin, Stephen Cagle, Morris Hightower and Lamar Weldon will serve as active pallbearers.
