Obituary for James Holbrook

James Franklin “Jimmy” Holbrook, Jr., 69, of Cartersville, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 3, 2017. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 11, 1947 and was the son of the late James F. Holbrook, Sr. and Virginia Ruth Griffith Holbrook.

Jimmy was retired from Georgia Power and served in Georgia’s Army National Guard for six years. He loved John Wayne, was an avid Buck “Duke 500” knives collector and adored professional wrestling. He loved reading books. He also loved pirates and cowboys and was lovingly referred to by all who knew him as “Captain Jimmy”. He was generous to his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he so graciously touched.

Survivors include his loving wife, Stevie Lynn Holbrook; his children by his late wife, Jonnie David Holbrook, Jennie Southerland Holbrook, John Holbrook (Heather), and Jamey Holbrook (Melissa); grandchildren, Jake, Justin, Andrew, Lauren, Cameron, and Audrey; sister, Vicky Walton (Andy), as well as many relatives and friends too numerous to list.

The family will receive friends from 4 - 6 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Following the receiving of friends at the funeral home, you may also join the family for lite refreshments at The Bartow History Museum, located downtown Cartersville (underneath the bridge) 4 E Church St, Cartersville, GA 30120, from 5 – 7PM. There will be no formal funeral service.
