Obituary for Richard W. Herrmann

Richard W.  Herrmann
Mr. Richard W. Herrmann, 82, of Sun City Center, Florida, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville, GA

Born December 18, 1931 in Peru, Illinois, he was a son of the late William Herrmann and the late Ethel Keutzer Herrmann. Mr. Herrmann was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving aboard the USCGC Blackthorn during the Korean War, and later was a Blue and Gold Officer for the United States Naval Academy. He was employed with AT&T (formerly Illinois Bell Telephone Co.) for 31 years, retiring in 1985. His career encompassed various positions including Lineman, Engineer, and eventually Construction Supervisor for the entire Southern Illinois region. After retirement from AT&T, Mr. Herrmann worked as a realtor for the Chaney Agency. Mr. Herrmann was a resident of Centralia, Illinois for over 34 years where he was very active in his community. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church for over 30 years, where he served as a Deacon and a Trustee. Mr. Herrmann was an active member of the Centralia Rotary Club, served as a Board Member of the Centralia City Schools and on the Board of Directors of Old National Bank. He also served as local Chairman for the Habitat for Humanity Project, and Chairman of the Board of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. After moving to Sun City Center, Mr. Herrmann was a member of the Men’s Club and attended Trinity Baptist Church. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father who put God and family first in his life.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret A. Herrmann; his children, Susan Herrmann Stonecipher and her husband Brad of Wildwood, MO, Stephen R. Herrmann and his wife Denise of Pensacola, FL, and Alan L. Herrmann and his wife Jessica of Coronado, CA; sister, Audrey Gee and her husband George of Lockport, IL; brothers, Ronald Herrmann and his wife Mary of Granville, IL, and Kenneth Herrmann of Arvada, CO; grandchildren, Blake Stonecipher, Will Stonecipher, Mallory Herrmann, Abigail Herrmann, Sophia Herrmann, Ryan Herrmann, and Garrett Herrmann; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Trinity Baptist Church in Sun City Center, Florida.

The family suggests that those who wish may make donations to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 702 Del Webb Boulevard West, Sun City Center, FL 33573 in memory of Mr. Herrmann.
