Obituary for Martha Lee Whitener

Martha Lee Whitener, 78, of Cartersville got her wings to fly home on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Cartersville Medical Center.

Born in Waleska, on February 22, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Grady and the late Delia Crowe Grady. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Whitener. Martha was employed as a receptionist for the Cherokee County Tax Commissioner until her retirement. She loved to attend church and sing with “Mama Whitener and the Parker Family”. Her favorite church was Canaan Land Christian Center in Adairsville.

Survivors include her sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Qualls of Cartersville and Mary Ledbetter and Herman of Nicholson, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Grady, Jr. and Jean of Waleska, Jimmy Grady and Betty of Ballground, and J.T. Grady and Christine of Waleska; several nieces and nephews; her best friend, Richard Anderson of Cartersville; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James Whitener and Joan of Cartersville and Alvin Whitener and Annette of Cartersville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with the Reverend J.A. Martin and the Reverend Larmar Long officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday until the funeral hour, at the funeral home.
