The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Daniel Maki can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Good men like Dan are few and far between. He touched so many lives in such a wonderful way. I , and my son Joshua, will be forever thankful we knew him as Scoutmaster and friend. He is missed. Prayers for his family as they grieve his loss.

From the time we first met in the gym at Warren Township High School in June 1970, we realized we had a lot in common. We were both Navy brats, had went to schools all over the world. We were both 15 years old and still wet behind the ears. It wasn't much longer and we became inseparable. Where one of us was, you would find the other one. We teamed up with a great bunch of kids and used to skip school the first good snow and go sledding up by Wilmot mountain. Then when it got nice, we would head to Illinois beach state park in Zion and go swimming in lake Michigan. When we had classes together, that was a big mistake. One time I was talking like a duck to a girl name Carol in Junior English. The teacher, Mrs. Florio told me in sign language to leave the class. Dan, who was sitting right behind me, raised his hand and said, "can I go too?" She immediately kicked him out as well. We were known as the Maki and Myers team. We went to join the Air Force together and signed up for delayed enlistment in October 1972. Then we both got our draft notices afterward and tore them up in front of our Mothers just to freak them out. We got a kick out of it, but we new there was no problem because we were already committed to the Air Force. We joined under the buddy system, so got to go to boot camp together. Maki had some match books made up, blue covers that said "Maki Myers" team. That way we had something to light up that occasional cigar, even though we were not smokers. Dan wasn't just my friend. We had adopted each other and agreed to be brothers back when we were 15. I believe in my heart that God blessed Dan with the gift of giving of himself. He never turned down anyone in need, whether he knew them or not. He was always there. When I came back from Kuwait in 2008 and again in 2010, guess who was at the airport in Atlanta to pick me up. Guess who was my best man when Gina and I got married in 2008. I know he is in Heaven because we already had that discussion a few years ago. He loved God, and accepted him in his heart long ago. Dan, brother, save me a seat up there. I love you.(by the way, I forgive you for stealing my girl friends in High School. Haha)

Dan was a huge influence on me in my early years in the reserves. I can say he was always a friend who looked out for everyone before himself. I will truly miss you brother. God Speed and Safe Travels

Dan you were a great inspiration to so many boys. Your troop was always the one that we strived to beat. Yes Dan the Beavers did steal your Flag, I have it in my closet and was to return it to you one day. I will now lay it to rest in your memory.
