Obituary for Wayne "Big Ern" Burgess

Wayne "Big Ern"  Burgess
Mr. Wayne “Big Ern” Burgess, 75, of Cartersville died Friday, March 06, 2015 at Redmond Regional Hospital in Rome. A native of Bartow County, born April 7, 1939, he was the son of the late George and Jewel Burgess.
Mr. Burgess was a member of Lighted Pathway Church and loved the Lord. He was a hard worker, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He especially loved his dogs, Buddy and Rusty. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a special brother-in-law, Dennis Hartness; and his father-in-law, “Doc” Hartness.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Jo Burgess of Cartersville; his daughters, Tammy Pratt of Cartersville and Shirley Abernathy also of Cartersville; his step-children, Kim Lanham (Earl) of Cartersville, Brian Guffey (Ashley) of Cartersville and Charlie Guffey (Tanya) of Calhoun; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2015 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Reverend Jack Kitchens officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive from 5 – 7 p.m on Sunday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Burgess, Dustin Abernathy, Earl Lanham, Luke Pratt, Alan Massey and Dennis Huskins.
