Obituary for Irvin "Irv" Smith

Mr. Irvin “Irv” L. Smith, 83, of Cartersville, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Ft. McPherson, Georgia, January 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Henry Smith and Alta V. Young Smith.

Mr. Smith is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a great role model. He was a dedicated family man, had a very giving spirit, was genuinely interested in others, a man of great integrity, an avid reader and never met a stranger. Mr. Smith was employed in aerospace management for 37 years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Barron Clarence Smith; his sister, Helen Christian; and brothers, Marion Neal and Buddy Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Georgia Ann Conn Smith of Cartersville; his daughter, Valerie O’Hare and husband, Stephen of Roswell; his son, Randall Irvin Smith and wife, Elizabeth of Canton; his grandchildren, Bailey Smith, Camille Smith, Sophie O’Hare, Reilly O’Hare, Georgia O’Hare, Tyler Johnson and Cody Johnson; his great-granddaughter, Kadence Smith; his brother Major Smith of Alabama; his daughter-in-law, Irene Ashby of White.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. Kirk Bozeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Interment will take place in Georgia National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
