Obituary for Carol Hamby

Mr. Carol Wifford Hamby, age 86, of Emerson died Sunday, April 3, 2016 at his residence. Born August 13, 1929 in Hiwassee, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Readle Hamby and Bonnie Gutherie Hamby.

He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army and a member of FA&M #426 Lodge in Murphy, North Carolina. Mr. Hamby was also a member of International Association of Bridge, Structural ,Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union Local No. 387 for 68 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Hamby worked hard and had strong work ethics. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Billy, Alec, Kenneth, Leonard and Wayne Hamby; his sisters, Juanita Shelton, Regina Stiles and Kay Worley.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margaret Hamby of Emerson, his children, Cathy Hamby and Herbie Strickland of Cartersville, Stacey and Dwayne Woods of Taylorsville and Wifford Hamby and Tammy Dillard of Rome; his grandchildren, Tiffany Hamby of Macon, Shannon and Missy Stiles of Adairsville, Steven Woods of Taylorsville and Zachary Woods of Taylorsville; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Stiles, Haley Stiles, Dixie Kinslow and MaKayla Kinslow; his sisters, Betty and Jerry Beavers of Morganton, Georgia and Lucy and Terry Ware of Murphy, North Carolina; along with his brother, Danny and Ramona Hamby of Murphy, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Murphy, North Carolina with military honors and masonic rites. The
Reverend Shannon Stiles will officiate. Mr. Hamby will lie-in-state at the church from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Cartersville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Wifford Hamby, Steven Woods, Zachary Woods, Shannon Stiles, Johnny Hamby and Darrell Hamby. Danny Hamby will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
