Obituary for Jose Guillermo Rivas
Mr. Jose Guillermo Rivas, (aka Joe) age 65, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Grady Hospital with devastating injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. Joe was born on June 26, 1951 in Paso Del Aguila, Mexico son of the late Daniel Rivas and Maria Victoria Morales Rivas.
Joe served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was recognized for his achievements by receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Medal with Numeral 1, a Life Saving Medal and the Soldier’s Medal Sharpshooter. He had a free spirit while loving his family, life and his Harley. He was also an accomplished dancer and the peace maker and protector of his family.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Rivas; his children, Lee Rivas (Brandy), Melanie Spencer (Courtney), Sheena Holder, Nicole Bibbs (Russon) and Monique Day (Chris); 16 grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law, Romana Vargas (Alfredo).
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Reverend Josh Proctor officiating. Following the memorial service a motorcade will be riding to Tom’s Place from the funeral home. A ground burial of the ashes will take place on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
