How Great Thou Art

John Hambrick spent his working life as a school administor for the Bartow County school system and newly created Kennesaw State. He was good at his job but throuhout his life his passion remained with his first love, music. He was a gifted and highly acclaimed high school band leader. He was a friend and contemporary of the director of the UGA Dixie Redcoat Band. His band was recognized as the best in the state. On occasion, he and Jane would visit us for a favorite meal, brown beans and cornbread. Once he brought an old reel to reel tape of his old band and we listened to it. It was like reliving the birth of a child. Though the tape was old there was no mistaking the greatness of it and the pride that still staightened his spine and lifted his spirit. He passed that love to his children. I knew him as a friend and as the leader of the best small church choir ever. It was small because our church group was small but it lacked nothing as it had just enough talent and it had the maestro. We never over rehearsed and John always pulled the best from us. Those are some of my best memories. Love you, Brother John. Thanks for sharing your music with us.
