The Dixie Irish Band

The Band was such an important part of my High School experience, and Mr Hambrick made the band. We worked hard, we were good and it made us all proud. A high school friend who was a football player told the story of being at an away game that was going to be tough. They were warming up on the field when they heard the band marching in. The other team watched us in awe, and my friend said the band won the game for them right then.

Marching season was an adrenalin rush, as was marching in parades, but playing concerts is where we really got to learn and love music. Mr. Hambrick picked me to play a school French Horn. In Junior High I shared it with a Senior (I had my own mouthpiece). I came to love music through that Horn.

I love it still. I  remember the way it felt to play as a part of a group with the whole so much more than the sum of the parts.

Thank you Mr. Hambrick.
